July 8, 2012 Weekly Weather and Mineral Guess

July 8, 2012

Greetings from the Bluff Park Back Porch:

Last week 0.25 inches of rain fell on BP2.   Most of that fell on Saturday Morning.  Wow!

This Week:  Showers and thunderstorms will be very numerous at least until Friday. Tuesday and Wednesday will have the best rain chances.

DROUGHT: Most of Alabama remains abnormally dry or in drought conditions.

Our elemental guess this week has an atomic number of 6.  Think of the fossil fuels coal, oil, and gas, and graphite and diamond.  It also makes up a significant portion of our plants and animals, and you and me (18.5%).  Also limestone, dolomite, carbon dioxide in the air, and methane hydrates (methane ice).
What is it?  C _ _ _ _ _

HEAT TIPS: Some things to remember: wear loose fitting, light colored clothing. Drink plenty of non-alcoholic, non-coffined drinks. Take a break from time to time if working or playing. Spend as much time as possible in air conditioning. Fans help a lot if there isn’t any AC. Check on elderly family, neighbors and friends. Remember pets. They suffer in the heat too. Keep their water supplies full and give them a break too.
