May 5, 2013 Weekly Weather and Mineral Guess

May 5, 2013

Greetings from the Bluff Park Back Porch:

For the previous week, 2.36 inches of rain fell on BP2 .  The weekly high was 83 and the weekly low was 41.

Metro Birmingham Forecast for the New Week:
–     Chance of Rain:  80% for Sunday, 70% for Sunday Night, 60% for Monday, 20% for Monday Night and Tuesday.  All due to the spinning low trying to get out of Alabama.
–     Weekly forecast high and low are 82 for Friday, and 40
for Sunday AM.  On Tuesday, temperatures should start warming up.
–     Next system (rain, %=?) moves into Alabama on Saturday.

Elemental Mineral Guest:

Our guest is a chemical element with the symbol of Tc and atomic number 43.  Tc is a silvery-gray radioactive metal with an appearance similar to that of platinum. It is commonly obtained as a gray powder.[18

–    It is NOT a household name.
–    Only minute traces occur naturally in the Earth’s crust as a spontaneous fission product in uranium ores. A kilogram of uranium contains an estimated 1 nanogram (10-9 g) of Tc.[14][48][49]
–     Every form is radioactive.
–     In contrast with its rare natural occurrence, bulk quantities of Tc-99 are produced each year from spent nuclear fuel rods, which contain various fission products.
–     It is primarily use in Nuclear Medicine as a tracer.
–     Due to its B-emissions is is used for equipment calibration.

What is it?  T _ c _ _ _ _ _ _ _.

Slim pickings with the photos.
