Geologic Wish List for Geologic Programs:
1    –    Superstition Mountains, AZ.
5    –    Appalachian Mountains.   Yes, those mountains located east of the Rockies and the Mississippi River.
4    –    Alabama Geology.
1    –    Geomorphology.

“Geomorphology (from Greek: γῆ, ge, “earth”; μορφή, morfé, “form”; and λόγος, logos, “study”) is the scientific study of the origin and evolution of topographic and bathymetric features created by physical, chemical or biological processes operating at or near the earth’s surface. Geomorphologists seek to understand why landscapes look the way they do, to understand landform history and dynamics and to predict changes through a combination of field observations, physical experiments and numerical modeling. Geomorphology is practiced within physical geography, geology, geodesy, engineering geology, archaeology and geotechnical engineering. This broad base of interests contributes to many research styles and interests within the field.”  Wikipedia
Greetings from the Bluff Park Back Porch, way up yonder on Shades Mountain (1,109′) in Alabama:

It is very difficult to just pick one piece of geology and present it without referencing the other related pieces of geology to include geography, mineralogy, petrology, and tectonics.
As shown below I will start with a basic overview of North American Geology, then move into the Geology of the Appalachian Mountains, and finally, try and geologically dissect Alabama.

The oldest rock in North America is 3 Billion Years Old and made up the Laurentian Continent which is the foundation for North American Geology.  Hopefully, I will try and be briefer, before my mind shorts out.

Homework Assignment > At least read the Wikipedia article about the Geology of North America.  If time permits, the North American videos are educational and entertaining.

Warning:    This session could ramble on for weeks, if not months.  Let me know if I need to unplug for group sanity.  R
