Greetings from the Bluff Park Back Porch, way up yonder on Shades Mountain (1,109′) in Alabama:


Needless to say, there is no easy way to geologically dissect North America. 
At any rate we will geologically wander across North America as best that I can stumble across the outcrop.  (See below for discussion)
The next topic is the  Appalachian  Orogen .
Orogen  is a continental plate that has been crumpled and is pushed upwards to form mountain ranges.
In this case, Africa slammed into North America.
We will now spend about 5-weeks in the Appalachian Mountains.

Last Week On the Bluff:

–    63 was the high and 20 was the low.
–    Rainfall total on the Bluff was 0.5 inches.
–    Maximum wind gust was 17 mph. 

Metro Birmingham Forecast for the New Week

 
–    52 is the forecast high and 21 is the forecast low.
*    Below freezing temperatures at night from Sunday through Tuesday.  Check on the elderly, pipes, plants, pets.
–    1.1 inches of rain is forecast for the week.
–    Rain by Wednesday.
